Radiant Barriers are installed in buildings to reduce summer heat gain and winter heat loss, and hence to reduce building heating and cooling loads reducing your electric bill.
Radiant Barriers work by reducing heat transfer by thermal radiation across the air space between the roof deck and the attic floor, where conventional insulation is usually placed. It also reduces the heat surrounding your A/C ducts therefore increasing A/C efficiency.
By reducing the amount of heat reaching your attic floor, radiant barrier dramatically increases the existing insulation's effectiveness.
Radiant Barriers reduce radiant heat transfer by 97%.
Radiant Barrier is a Good Investment
- Reduces attic temperatures up to 50 degrees Fahrenheit
- Reduces electric bills
- Reduces heat loss in winter
- Improves A/C duct performance
- Improves performance of existing attic insulation
- Increases overall comfort
- A major step in increasing your homes energy efficiency.
- Federal Tax Credits are available to reduce your installation costs.
Radiant Barrier vs More Insulation:
Insulation loses its effectiveness at higher temperatures. R-values for attic insulation are measured at 75 degrees F. As temperatures rise
the r-values begin to diminish. Adding more insulation would help, but the installation of a radiant barrier would increase the efficiency of
your existing insulation by lowering the attic temperature. It would be more cost effective to install a radiant barrier 1st and then install
more insulation as necessary. We can install additional attic insulation at the same time that we install the radiant barrier to dramatically reduce your
electric cooling load.
Federal Tax Credit:
Any Radiant Barrier or Insulation installed Jan 1st
2009 through Dec 31st 2010 is eligible for a 30% Federal Tax Credit
(up to $1500).
Homeowners must file
IRS
Form 5695 to receive the tax credit.
